There has been a lot in the media recently about some of the risks associated with coming off prescribed drugs like antidepressants. This workshop will provide an opportunity to explore how far we as psychological therapists can support our clients to think about, prepare for and undergo a deprescribing journey. It will cover what information we might signpost, some common roadblocks, and a little on current moves within the NHS to improve the quality of the deprescribing pathway for patients. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and if you have anything you’d like to make sure is covered in the talk, do let Anne know in advance via anne@anneguycounselling.com
Workshop Lead: Dr Anne Guy, UKCP Reg, MSAFPAC (Accred)
Lead editor for the “Guidance for Psychological Therapists: Enabling Conversations with Clients Taking or Withdrawing from Psychiatric Drugs” created in collaboration with leading UK therapy organisations and academics.
Steering Group Co-Chair for an NHS project to support ICBs to address inappropriate antidepressant prescribing
Secretariat co-ordinator and Prescribed Drug Dependence Lead for the Beyond Pills All-Party Parliamentary Group
Founder member of the Lived and Professional Experience Advisory Panel for Prescribed Drug Dependence
Associate member of the Institute for Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal
Member of the Council for Evidence-Based Psychiatry
Anne has also co-authored articles on patients and therapists’ experiences of psychiatric drugs and written a chapter on psychopharmacology for the latest edition of the Sage Handbook of Counselling and Psychotherapy. She is a psychotherapist in private practice who works with clients wishing to withdraw from such drugs (although is no longer accepting new clients).
